Berlin
Charlottenburg's charming, old-style neighbourhood
Few visitors to Charlottenburg's Schloss seem to realise that one of Berlin's quaintest districts lies just a couple of minutes' walk from the palace itself.
A small cluster of stucco-fronted streets - Neufertstrasse, Nehringstrasse, Seelingstrasse, Christstrasse and Danckelmannstrasse - retain much of their late 19th century charm; a tranquil enclave where locals relax in pleasant cafes and watch the world pass slowly by.
Despite its proximity to major visitor attractions, tourists are rare. Worth a visit if you're nearby, if only to savour a strikingly lovely, low-key slice of the city.
