Berlin
A market to savour
The Berlin district of Moabit oozes earthy, unpretentious charm. And since it's still well off the tourist trail - although just a short distance from the city's best known sights - it's the perfect place to experience an authentic, distinctly local Berlin.
Take, for example, the Arminiushalle, Moabit's historic market hall.
Located in a lovely late 19th-century building, it's been trading almost constantly for over a century, and remains a busy, bustling source of fresh market produce.

It's also, however, a little-known gastronomic hot spot, serving international specialities alongside traditional German classics.
Although overshadowed by Kreuzberg's hipper food market haven 'Markthalle Neun', there's plenty to tempt in Moabit's own culinary centre.
And whatever goodies you decide to savour, you'll be mingling with local folk and getting a taste of 'real' Berlin while you're at it.
